Today we’d like to introduce you to CJ Stasik.
Hi CJ, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For a long time, I was great at doing what I thought I was supposed to be doing.
I spent more than two decades building a career in high-pressure, high-performance environments, eventually becoming the COO and then CEO of an award-winning digital marketing agency. From the outside, I had built a successful life. I had the title, the career, the house, the family, and all the things we’re told are supposed to mean were successful.
But somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn’t actually enjoying the life I had worked so hard to build.
I was burned out, overwhelmed, and constantly carrying more because I was capable of carrying it. I remember thinking over and over, “There has to be more to life than just making it through the day.”
That realization didn’t lead to one dramatic decision where I suddenly figured everything out. It became a series of awakenings. I went through divorce, questioned who I was outside of the roles and expectations I had built my identity around, stepped away from the corporate career I had spent years building, and started getting very honest about what I actually wanted my life to look and feel like.
SheHandlesIt originally began in 2019, but over time it evolved right alongside me. What started as a platform became the work I now do as an author, keynote speaker, mindset coach, and strategic consultant. Today, I help people who have built lives that may look successful on the outside but no longer feel aligned on the inside get clear about what they want, get unstuck from what is keeping them there, and start moving toward a life that actually feels like their own.
That journey also became the foundation for my book, The Midlife Awakening: Redefining Success, Love and Purpose On Your Own Terms. The book explores so much of what I had to learn myself: that we are allowed to question the definitions of success we inherited, change our minds about what we want, let go of identities that no longer fit, and rebuild without needing our entire lives to fall apart first.
Today, my definition of success looks very different than it once did. It’s not just about achievement. It’s having the freedom, energy, health, relationships, purpose, and peace to intentionally live a life that feels as good as it looks.
And in many ways, that’s what all of my work has become about: helping other people realize they don’t have to keep living by default. They can choose to live by design.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not. But I also think the struggles are what ultimately shaped the work I do today.
One of the hardest parts was realizing that sometimes the life you worked really hard to build can stop being the life you want. There is a lot of fear and guilt that comes with admitting that, especially when, from the outside, you have so much to be grateful for.
For years, I tied a lot of my identity to being capable. I was the person who could handle it. At work, at home, for my family, for everyone around me. And when you’re good at carrying a lot, people tend to give you more to carry. The problem was that I rarely stopped to ask whether I actually wanted to carry all of it.
Eventually, that caught up with me. I experienced burnout, went through a divorce, questioned my career and my identity, and had to confront some uncomfortable truths about the way I had been living. I had spent so much time checking the boxes and meeting expectations that I wasn’t always sure which choices were actually mine anymore.
Stepping away from the security and identity of a successful executive career was another challenge. Building something of your own sounds exciting, but there is a big difference between being successful inside an established company and creating a business around your own voice, ideas, and experiences. I’ve had to learn to trust myself in an entirely different way.
There have also been plenty of moments when I’ve questioned whether I was moving fast enough or doing enough. One of the biggest lessons I’ve had to learn, and continue to practice, is something I say often now: just because you can, doesn’t mean you have to.
The road hasn’t been smooth, but I don’t think I would want to erase the difficult parts. They forced me to get honest about what success actually means to me and ultimately helped me build a life and a body of work that feel much more like my own.
I don’t believe we have to blow up our lives to change them. But I do believe we have to be willing to tell ourselves the truth when something isn’t working anymore. That’s usually where change begins.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
SheHandlesIt is built around a pretty simple belief: you shouldn’t have to spend your life successfully managing a life you don’t actually want.
At the heart of my work, I help people get clear, get unstuck, and get moving. That might be someone in midlife questioning what they want next, a professional considering a major career change, or a leader who has become so buried in the day-to-day that they’ve lost sight of the bigger picture.
My work takes several forms. I offer one-on-one mindset and transition coaching, leadership and executive coaching, strategic consulting for business owners and leadership teams, workshops, and keynote speaking. I’m also the author of The Midlife Awakening: Redefining Success, Love and Purpose On Your Own Terms.
On the personal transformation side of my work, I specialize in helping people recognize where they’ve been living by default, realign with what they actually want, and begin rebuilding intentionally. A lot of the people I work with aren’t necessarily in crisis. In fact, many of them are highly capable, successful people whose lives look perfectly fine from the outside. They just know something doesn’t feel right anymore.
My business consulting work comes from more than two decades of leadership experience. I work with business owners and leadership teams who are overwhelmed, stuck in the weeds, or trying to build organizations that don’t depend on one person carrying everything. I help them create clarity around people, roles, accountability, processes, priorities, and leadership so they can step back from constantly reacting and start leading more intentionally.
Those two sides of my work may sound different, but to me they’re incredibly connected. Whether I’m sitting across from an individual questioning what’s next in their life or a CEO who can’t get out of the day-to-day operations of their company, we’re usually trying to solve some version of the same problem: What are you carrying? What actually belongs to you? What isn’t working anymore? And what needs to change so you can move forward?
I think what sets SheHandlesIt apart is that I don’t approach this work only from theory. I’ve been the executive sitting in the CEO seat. I’ve experienced burnout. I’ve rebuilt after divorce. I’ve changed careers, questioned my own definition of success, built a business, and had to learn many of these lessons myself. At the same time, my job isn’t to tell someone to make the choices I made. It’s to help them get clear enough to make their own.
What I’m most proud of is how SheHandlesIt has evolved. The name originally represented being the person who could handle everything. Today, it means something very different to me. I’ve learned that being capable of handling something doesn’t automatically mean it deserves your time, energy, or responsibility.
That’s why one of the phrases at the center of my brand is: “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you have to.”
Ultimately, whether someone finds me through coaching, consulting, a keynote, or The Midlife Awakening, I want them to walk away believing they have more choice than they realized. You don’t have to keep living by default simply because you’ve gotten good at it. You can get clear about what you want and start building your life, leadership, or business around it.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m in a really exciting season with SheHandlesIt because so much of what I’ve been building over the last several years is starting to come together.
One of my biggest priorities is expanding my speaking work. I’m taking The Midlife Awakening beyond the book and onto more stages, with a focus on conversations around midlife reinvention, redefining success, leadership, and what it means to stop living by default and start living by design. I’m especially excited to be speaking at the Fearless Women’s Summit in Bozeman, Montana, in January 2027.
I’m also focused on building more community around this work. I’ve recently launched Beyond the Bullshit, a virtual community meetup designed to create the kinds of honest conversations I think so many of us are craving. It’s less about sitting through another webinar or being taught something and more about bringing people together to talk about the things we’re actually navigating in our lives.
Longer term, I’d love to create even more ways for people to experience this work beyond one-on-one coaching, including expanded programs, events, retreats, and potentially a larger Midlife Awakening experience or summit.
I’ll also continue my strategic consulting work with business owners and leadership teams. I really love that part of what I do, and I don’t see the personal transformation and business sides of SheHandlesIt as separate. Both are ultimately about creating clarity, letting go of what isn’t working, and intentionally building what comes next.
More than anything, I’m looking forward to continuing to grow SheHandlesIt without recreating the very life I worked so hard to change. I want to build something meaningful and successful, but I also want the freedom to enjoy the life I’m building along the way.
That’s probably the biggest change in how I think about the future now. I’m still ambitious. I still have big goals. I just no longer believe achieving them should require sacrificing myself in the process.
