Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Smith.
Hi Tiffany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2019, I took a leap of faith, left my corporate career, and opened my photography studio. Just eight months in, the pandemic forced a global shutdown. Instead of stepping back, I used that time to give back, launching a project that offered free senior portraits to students across three local high schools. The initiative caught widespread attention, landing features on both WTAE and CNN.
Through that experience, I realized my true passion was making people feel empowered and seen. While I began as a generalist, I quickly discovered a deep alignment with boudoir photography. Once businesses reopened, I committed fully to mastering this genre. I invested heavily in high-level mentorship and ongoing education to understand the unique emotional, technical, and professional nuances of boudoir learning how to create a safe, upscale experience from the initial connection to the final edit.
Today, I continually invest in my education to provide an elite, professional experience for my clients. This summer, I am incredibly proud to celebrate seven years in business and welcome my 700th client.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I started this business by cashing in $6,000 from my retirement savings with zero client list and absolutely no backup plan. Entrepreneurship naturally comes with financial ebbs and flows, but the unique challenge of owning a boudoir studio is navigating the misconceptions that still surround the genre.
I’ve had to face moments where people misjudged or attacked my business without fully understanding it. It can be exhausting to constantly play defense and prove that boudoir is an empowering art form, not what outdated stigmas imagine it to be.
Through the financially lean months and the industry misconceptions, what keeps me going is the profound impact of the work. When I see the deep connection, healing, and confidence my clients experience, the noise fades away. Knowing that my team and I play a small part in helping women find themselves again and feel truly seen and valued makes every single hurdle worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer specializing exclusively in boudoir. I am known for my ability to help women break through their insecurities, feel completely at ease, and see their own power and beauty reflected back at them.
What sets me apart is that I treat boudoir as a high-level profession, not a hobby. Because this genre is so deeply personal and vulnerable, I have spent years investing in continuing education and studying under notable industry mentors. I’ve mastered the specific art of boudoir client interaction, specialized lighting, and tailored posing. I don’t just take pretty pictures; I provide a safe, upscale, and deeply connecting experience from start to finish.
I am most proud of reaching my 7-year anniversary and serving 700 clients. In an industry with a lot of turnover, building a business with that kind of staying power solely focused on empowering women and helping them find who they are again is my greatest achievement.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
No one builds a successful business alone, and I have been incredibly fortunate to have an amazing network of mentors and a powerhouse team behind me.
My Mentors:
I owe so much of my professional growth, technical skill, and industry insight to my incredible mentors: Danielle Martine (my very first mentor), Ariana Rodriguez, Jaqueline Jimenez, and Karina Valez. They taught me how to run a studio with integrity and master the unique nuances of boudoir.
My Team & Family:
My studio is a proud family business, and my team is the backbone of our daily success:
Morgan Smith: My oldest daughter is our talented lead hair and makeup artist, ensuring clients feel pampered and confident before they ever step in front of the camera. She is also currently understudying with me to learn the art of shooting.
Reese Smith: My middle daughter serves as our marketing and studio manager. She recently graduated from Robert Morris University with her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, bringing fresh, expert strategy to our brand.
Amanda Smeal: Our wonderful booking coordinator, Amanda is the essential first point of contact for our clients, creating a warm, welcoming, and safe space from the very first interaction.
