Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylie Vrabel-Lopez.
Hi Kaylie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I picked up my first DSLR camera in college with no intention other than to better capture the life of college, friends and the world I was experiencing at the time. Let’s be honest, i probably wanted my Facebook photo albums to get a face lift! It started with a few friends recognizing that I had a decent camera and just asking me to snap a few graduation photos. From there I realized this was a form of art expression that I had been missing so I decided to delve into creative shoots and editing. I have a creative soul, trying as many different mediums as I could get access to in art. Photos and memories have always held extreme value in my life as well, so photography was the perfect concoction to allow me to share my craft with others. Now it’s 11 years since I got on this ride and I have been able to share in and capture some of the best days of people‘s lives. I specialize in portrait photography, but have dabbled in products and real estate as well. There is just nothing quite like being able to FEEL the emotions of a portrait from a genuine moment people want to bottle and remember forever.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has this been a smooth process? Of course not, that would be terribly boring. When I first started out in Photography, I was just wrapping up college, which some might say is a very pivotal point in one’s life. As many who first start out in the creative world of entrepreneurship, I questioned if I could sustain a living with Photography being my main craft. So I continued my current path I was paving towards becoming a doctor of physical therapy. That in itself was an extremely challenging and self building journey which had it’s own affect on my photography business, which was suddenly taking off while I was in grad school. Photography provided such a unique creative outlet in some of the most difficult, yet rewarding years I’ve had thus far. Photography and physical therapy have become two side of my professional coin and I feel so rich in life for both.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a self taught photographer, specializing in portrait photography for the past 11 years. There is no particular niche I’m known for, though I’ve photographed anywhere from animals, grads, newborns, boudoir, maternity, couples, events, products, and more. I’m most proud of my return clients. It’s a humbling business to rely on people choosing you that when they do it repeatedly, there is a great sense of pride. I have made many lasting friendships from this little corner of paradise. What sets me apart? That so extremely difficult to say with so many amazing photographers in the immediate area. So I don’t have an answer for that aside from finding the clients that like my vibe and sense of humor in addition to the photos.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Human connection and an intent to keep a session light and fun. If we don’t leave laughing, I take that as a personal fail and drive home reassessing my entire sense of humor.
