Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Mendoza.
Hi Crystal, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My holistic healing journey began when I became pregnant with my daughter in 2017. Something shifted within me and I felt this deep love and connection to the Earth. I remember, one day (when I was a couple months pregnant) my mother-in-law and I were taking a walk around her property when I spotted a pretty flower that I never noticed before but have definitely walked by many times. I asked her “What’s this pretty flower?”, she replied “That’s yarrow. It’s actually great for wounds and as a tea”. She continued telling me stories about yarrow and how her dad used it during the Great Depression. My mother-in-law had many stories about many herbs and wildflowers. As my heart and knowledge grew I started crafting my own herbal remedies – teas, soaps, salves, essential oil blends, herbal infused oils, tinctures. With my excitement I shared what I created on social media. Next thing I knew, friends and family wanted to buy my handcrafted creations and that’s how Holistic Unicorn started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part, it was a smooth road. Since I followed my heart and this was something that sparked love and joy within me, it all worked out. I did notice whenever I pushed too hard, veered off path or did things for my business that weren’t aligned, those things didn’t last.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Between 2023 and 2025, I wanted to deepen my love and knowledge for Earth, sisterhood, beauty, and ritual so I took an Ayurvedic Postpartum course and completed a year-long Reiki certification. With this, I felt a pull to offer in-person events, teach, and hold space for others…
As of 2026, I’ve officially stepped away from making my skincare products and began creating spaces for women to reconnect with themselves through women’s circles, retreats, workshops, and 1:1 Ceremonial Energy Healing Sessions.
I create safe, nurturing, and sacred spaces for women to release, feel, embody, love, and learn. Where women can slow down, feel supported, reconnect with their bodies and intuition, and simply be held without having to perform or have everything figured out.
Each offering is unique and can look different for everyone. I combine my knowledge and what has helped me, to create healing experiences. My offerings include (but not limited to) guided meditations, energy work, embodiment/movement, sound reiki, and earth connection. I don’t just offer a 30 minute reiki session, I offer deep connection, guidance, and tools for you to take home and continue your healing journey.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I currently love watching Sonia Choquette on YouTube. In the past watching videos by Joe Dispenza, Bruce Lipton, and Greg Braden helped me a lot. Some books that helped me in my herbalist journey were by Rosemary Gladstar and the National Audubon Guidebook for Wildflowers. I also took a 101 Master Herbalist Course. The rest of what I’ve learned that’s helped me were from locals, my ancestors, workshops, trial and error, and my mentors.
