Community Highlights: Meet Donna Walter of Skincare by DONNA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Walter.

Hi Donna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I never imagined I would spend my career in the beauty and wellness industry. Since graduating from college, I’ve had several different careers—you could say I’m a “Jack of all trades.” One of my favorite roles was as a meeting planner, but in 1992 my company’s sales and marketing department was eliminated. What initially felt like a setback turned out to be the opportunity that changed my life.

My aunt was an esthetician, and my best friend’s mother was an electrologist. Seeing their passion for helping people inspired me to explore the industry. I thought it would be a fun career and one that would also offer flexibility if I decided to have children someday. I enrolled in school for aesthetics, nail technology, and electrolysis, and I’ve never looked back.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in skin care studios, salons, a medical spa, a dermatologist’s office, and an ocular plastic surgery practice. Each experience taught me something valuable, but I eventually realized I wanted to create an environment that reflected my own philosophy. I wanted more control over the services I offered, the products I used, and the experience my clients would have from the moment they walked through my door.

My own health journey also played a significant role in shaping my business. After struggling with migraines and other health challenges, I became much more aware of the ingredients we expose ourselves to every day. That led me to discover Arbonne, a botanical health and wellness company whose products aligned with my values. I became an independent consultant in 2012, not only because I loved the products, but because I wanted to educate others about making healthier choices.

Wanting to deepen my knowledge even further, I became a Certified Health Coach through the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute. I truly believe that beautiful skin starts from within. The skin is our body’s largest organ, and caring for it goes far beyond what we apply topically. Nutrition, hydration, quality sleep, exercise, stress management, sun protection, and clean ingredients all play an important role in achieving healthy skin, and I enjoy helping my clients understand those connections.

Today, my studio is more than a place to receive a facial or manicure—it’s a peaceful retreat from the demands of everyday life. I specialize in non-toxic skin care and wellness-focused services, including facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing, electrolysis, infrared sauna sessions, and red light therapy. My goal is for every client to feel welcomed, cared for, and never rushed. There are no harsh chemical odors—just a clean, relaxing space where people can unwind and focus on themselves.

The relationships I’ve built with my clients are the most rewarding part of what I do. Many have become friends, and seeing their confidence grow—whether through healthier skin, permanent hair removal, or simply taking time for self-care—is what continues to inspire me every day.

Looking back, losing my job in 1992 felt like the end of one chapter. In reality, it was the beginning of a career that has allowed me to combine my love of education, wellness, and helping others. More than three decades later, I still feel grateful that what started as a career change became my life’s passion.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think it has been a smooth road. I get most of my clients from Google or word of mouth and they are all wonderful.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been fortunate to have worked in various industries, but it wasn’t until I entered the esthetics industry that I finally found my passion. Helping people look and feel their best is incredibly rewarding and I genuinely love
what I do!

At Skincare by DONNA, I offer personalized, one on one tretments in the comfort of my private home studio. I specialize in non toxic skincare and wellness, using botanically based products and take a holistic approach to beauty. My services include customized facials, electrolysis, manicures, pedicures, waxing, brow and lash tinting, makeup, infrared sauna sessions and red light therapy .
What sets me apart is that I never take a one-size-fits-all approach. Every client receives individualized care based on their unique skin concerns, goals, and lifestyle. I believe healthy, beautiful skin starts with using quality ingredients and creating a treatment plan that supports the skin naturally, not just temporarily.

I’m known for taking the time to educate my clients so they understand not only what I’m doing during their treatments, but also how to care for their skin at home. Building long-term relationships based on trust is one of the most rewarding parts of my business.

What I’m most proud of is the loyal client base I’ve built over the years. Many of my clients have been with me for decades, and their referrals are the greatest compliment I could receive. Knowing that they trust me with their skin, self-confidence, and overall well-being is something I never take for granted.

I want readers to know that my goal is to provide more than just a beauty treatment. I strive to create a relaxing, welcoming experience where clients can unwind, recharge, and leave feeling healthier, more confident, and cared for. My mission has always been to help people age gracefully, embrace their natural beauty, and feel their very best from the inside out.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like about the West Chester area is its strong sense of community. People genuinely enjoy supporting local businesses, and there are so many wonderful shops, restaurants, parks and fun events that make it a vibrant place to live and work. It has a small town charm while still offering amenities of a larger city. I’ve met wonderful people in West Chester; I am proud to call it home.

If I could change one thing it would be the traffic. It’s a small trade off for living in a thriving community. Fortunately, because I have a private home studio, I do not to have to commute to work every day, which makes it much easier for me. It allows me to spend less time in traffic and more time doing what I love -pampering my clients.
