Today we’d like to introduce you to Vaughn Worrell.
Hi Vaughn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started cutting hair when I was a junior in high school at 17 years old. I started my apprenticeship at Matt’s barbershop in Paoli, Pennsylvania. Matt is 80 years old and still cutting hair today. After getting my training and working in a few shops in the area, in 2007 I settled at Big Mike’s barbershop in West Chester, Pa owned by Mike Cooper. There I was able to sharpen my skills and build a solid base. I worked there for a little over 10 years before I decided to branch out on my own and open Maple Alley Barbershop in 2018. After surviving the COVID pandemic I feel like I can survive almost anything with the constant support of my family and friends. Without my support system I would not be where I am today. Maple Alley Barbershop is a small, quiet place where everyone can feel comfortable and welcome.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the challenges that I have faced were the Covid 19 pandemic. I was forced to close for 4 months.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in fades, shaves and beard sculpting. All hair types are welcome at MAB. The VIP like appointment only environment provides an exclusivity that you can’t get other places.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My first mentor was my first barber. Matt Cunningham is still a mentor to me today
