Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace.
Hi Grace, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Design is a second career for me. I suppose, in a lot of ways, it’s something I’ve been doing passively with my own spaces for years, but it wasn’t until I sold my ownership stake in my prior marketing business and made the decision to transition out of the corporate marketing world that I got into design full time. While I do have some formal training under my belt, I’m primarily self-taught & self-made. I started by sharing my journey with my own home, and things grew pretty organically from there.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all, both of my experiences in entrepreneurship have come with huge learning curves. With my shift into design, navigating an entirely new industry with a landscape that’s ever-changing often felt like trying to hit a moving target, it’s a lot of sink or swim. When you’re first starting out, you don’t know what you don’t know, and it can take awhile to find your rhythm — I think that’s one of the hardest parts, finding your groove and your own style. Building a business is challenging, and I think it’s normal for things to keep evolving as you go.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about House of Grace Interiors?
As an interior design firm, we focus primarily on residential projects — and from the very beginning, we’ve had the ability to support projects virtually.
We tend to specialize in unique, one-of-a-kind and historical homes. We’re known for curating ‘collected’, lived-in styles through the use of antiques and timeless materials. W
e welcome projects of all shapes and sizes, located anywhere!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think the desire to learn (and evolve, when necessary) is really important in a business like mine – as is creativity, not just in my design work but as a problem solver.
Your ability to solve problems is really what I think will make or break a successful business.
