Life & Work with Dutchy of Pennsylvania

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dutchy.

Hi Dutchy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started crocheting in 2024 to help me navigate the grief of losing my mother to cancer. After crocheting some hats and a blanket, I discovered amigurumi in 2025. I taught myself how to read patterns and soon learned how to put my artistic twist on existing patterns. Now I create unique plushies that are eye-catching and a little bit different than your regular plushies.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have a sob story just like everyone else, but I choose to focus on making a positive impact through art. I struggle with C-PTSD & PMOS and of course life is not always easy, or maybe never. But you can ALWAYS create. As long as I’m creating, I’m alive. And as long as people create, there is beauty in this world.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I crochet plushies/stuffed animals. I specialize in the technique called ‘Amigurumi’ and I make unique plushies that are eye-catching and a little bit different, for kids and adults alike.
I am mostly proud that I turned my grief into such an artistic outlet, and that the grief has become the greatest labor of love.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love any Fantasy books/movies and draw a bunch of inspiration from the imaginative worlds that authors create. I am a very imaginative person and love creating whatever pops up in my head.
