Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Oberholtzer.
Hi Lori, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Design is in my blood-I come from a long line of extraordinary creatives, and studied Interior Design in school. After marrying a real estate agent, we began to daydream about what it might look like to flip houses together. After a few successful high-end flips, my husband and I married our passions for real estate and design, and launched a business called Plumb and Fig. Now I focus on design for high-end rebuilds and renovations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve loved the variety of projects I’ve been able to work on, ranging from commercial co-working spaces, dance studios, and residential rebuilds. The hardest challenge we’ve had to navigate was walking through my husband’s devastating diagnosis of ALS. Justin fought bravely for 7 years, and in my wildest dreams I could not have asked for a more incredible cheerleader and co-dreamer! While design remained a creative outlet through our ALS journey , I had to devote the bulk of my time to caregiving. We pressed pause on our business and made the choice to be fully present for our family as we battled ALS together. The journey we walked together taught us more than I can explain about our faith, our priorities, and how to overcome challenges- all lessons that I’ll carry with me as I step back into full- time design work.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love projects that require creative art installations, and push the boundaries of design!
What makes you happy?
I get really excited when a space tells a client’s story. There is so much value in getting to know a client, hear their heart and vision and understand how they use their space, and then be able to step into their project and make it beautifully reflect who they are and how they live their one wild and precious life!
