Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Mummert.
Katelyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Thank you so much for having me here to share my story with your readers.
My story is a blend of trials, joy, failures, God’s grace, perseverance, and undoubtedly, love. If I am completely honest, I would not have chosen this path for myself. But I have learned that God’s plan is surely so much better than anything we can orchestrate ourselves.
There is a lot to my story, so I will do my best to give you the Reader’s Digest version!
I was born with a connective tissue disease called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, so as a child I was always in pain. My life, and ultimately my identity, revolved around this. At the same time, I suffered from ongoing trauma that caused complex PTSD, where I struggled with constant thoughts of and attempts to take my own life. I was almost kidnapped several times, one of which involved an attempt to sell me into human trafficking.
I look back now and see how, even though I may not have known Jesus at that time, He was the one who protected and delivered me in these battles.
Because of my health and the medical research surrounding the disease at that time, my doctors urged my family not to allow me to participate in sports when I was 10. Shortly after, I developed depression. This, however, diverted my interests, and I developed a passion for the beauty, health, and the fashion industry. At age 16, I began modeling, acting, and working as a makeup artist in this world.
Due to layers of traumatic family events, I was on my own at age 17 while I was a senior in high school. I started studying psychology in college, but eventually had to drop out after experiencing homelessness from not being able to make enough money for my rent.
In the same season, I discovered that I actually needed to exercise and lift weights to create stability for my hypermobile joints. Working out not only helped my physical health, but my mental health as well. This passion led me to work in the fitness world, obtaining my personal trainer certification.
I do have to share that while I am so grateful to have a background in fitness and a perspective on the other side of the camera, working in the entertainment industry led me down a dark path of eating disorders, abuse, exploitation, and more trauma.
God finally got my attention after I became homeless for the second time following an apartment fire that caused me to lose everything I had in that season. I met Jesus a few years prior, but this time I finally chose to follow Him. Eventually, I left the industry around age 22 and refused to ever go back.
Jesus showed me my worth and that my identity is found in Him and the sacrifice He made for me. That I could actually live from a place of being fully loved, rather than grind in survival mode to try and earn a counterfeit love from the world.
He then led me on a journey of healing where I experienced freedom from the things of my past, along with the guilt and shame. He began to heal my body through His presence and natural means, such as herbs. I joke about how Jesus and chamomile have both been my besties, always faithful to show up! Haha.
I then spent the next season of my life working in behavioral health, specializing in PTSD, with the end goal of becoming a psychologist.
During COVID, I worked at a medical detox facility and experienced severe burnout. After chats with my husband and a lot of time in prayer, God kept nudging me to go back into the beauty industry.
I fought it HARD, and people around me thought I was nuts to leave my career and go back to school to become an esthetician. Jesus reminded me that we are called to be lights in the darkness and that this time it would be different because I would be doing it with Him.
So in 2021, I graduated from esthetician school, got my license, and worked in a day spa for almost 2 years. I was in ministry at this time and volunteered with a human trafficking ministry, as this cause has always been very important to me. I started a small candle business in 2021 to bring awareness to human trafficking and provide ways for the community to partner in the fight against it.
In 2023, the Lord led me to open my own esthetician business with no money or clue what I was doing at the time. All I had was a yes.
As the weeks went by, the resources I needed began to show up, and I had EVERYTHING I needed to open shop. My husband has also been my greatest supporter in all of this, from helping me clean, do laundry, do bookkeeping and construction on the location, package products, and drive me to and from work when I couldn’t drive, among so much else! My family and clients also deserve so much credit for supporting me through SO many roller-coaster seasons and years of continual trial and error! LOL
Since opening, I have transitioned into being a Holistic Esthetician, providing facial services and products. My experiences have granted me a unique perspective on how the condition of our mental and physical health directly impacts many things in our lives, including our skin.
My passion is to create a safe place where I can help my clients get to the root cause of their skin concerns and support healing from the inside out.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since opening, there have been MANY obstacles and giants to face. I’ll share 3 that come to mind.
One challenge is learning how to build God’s way and not according to the systems and structures of our current world. I have failed more times than I have succeeded, but God’s grace has always been there to lead me back to building how He desires. This includes not taking out huge loans, which means choosing slow, intentional building rather than quickly building a skyscraper without a solid foundation.
This type of building is more behind the scenes than it is in the public eye. It is built on relationships, God’s Word, integrity, love, and a lotttt of prayer.
Another obstacle has been navigating an intense season of health issues, including almost losing my life. I’ve experienced more loss than I can explain, along with betrayal and trauma, all while trying to run a business. Last summer, we unexpectedly lost my Momma and then, a month later, my Aunt.
It was also a season where God was purifying relationships and revealing the hearts of people who were not meant to be aligned with my business or my life. So I had to confront and pull out of “good” opportunities and relationships that would otherwise compromise my walk with God and the business He has given me to steward.
This season almost took me out—literally. Between my health and being overcome with grief, I wasn’t sure if I would make it out of this season alive. I even decided to close up shop for a hot minute because I didn’t think I could go on. However, God has sustained me and the business. In my opinion, this is definitely one of the top 10 coolest traits of God: that in our weakness, He is strong! He has been building me back up stronger than I could have ever imagined!
Lastly, after noticing certain patterns in the treatment room of compromised barriers, I prayed and asked God for a solution that was natural. I was then led on a journey to develop the first Resurrected Beauty facial oil called “Zoe Elaion,” which means “Oil of Life” in Greek. This formulation has improved since first developing it and I have since then developed an Orange Creamsicle body and hair oil.
I am a firm believer that God still speaks and is invested in every detail of our lives. When I ask Jesus for help, He is faithful to show up!
While I wouldn’t have chosen this journey for myself years ago, I am grateful for every test and trial of my life. Without them, I wouldn’t have met Jesus or witnessed His faithfulness, time and time again.
And I wouldn’t be able to sit here today with a testimony to share with you.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Resurrected Beauty LLC?
At RB I perform facials from a holistic perspective. What that means is that I like to take the time to look at the whole person, to see what the root cause of their skin concerns could be.
The skin is the largest organ of the body and is directly connected to all of the systems in our body, including the gut and the nervous system that controls the “fight or flight” state.
When we have imbalances in our body or high levels of stress hormones, our skin responds. I noticed that many of my clients were chronically stressed and had impaired barriers. This is when I sought the Lord’s help and developed the Zoe Elaion oil.
This oil is 100% natural, with a blend of herbs and vanilla beans chosen for their skin-supporting properties. I personally extract all of these herbs and vanilla beans to ensure quality and effectiveness.
I also have an Orange Creamsicle body and hair oil that is 100% natural, contains no artificial fragrances, and smells just like an orange creamsicle popsicle! This is also very calming for the skin on the body.
I also specialize in Korean skincare and offer my clients to purchase their at home care on my website.
Lastly, in all of my facials, I prioritize facial lymphatic massage. Our lymphatic system is essentially our body’s cleanup and drainage crew, flushing out toxins. It does not have a pump like our heart, so it relies on us to help it out with physical movement, stretching or manually through massage. Our face does not get get as much muscle movement, so this is where we can build up excess fluid. Facial massage helps to clear “road blocks” and flush the excess fluid out.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Oh my, there have been MANY risks. Simply starting the business because I was “hearing from the Lord,” despite not having the natural means to do so, was a huge risk. It has been A LOT of hard work, sacrifice, and persecution, but it has been the greatest risk and faith jump that I have taken.
Another is honestly being open about my faith in a business environment and even in this magazine interview. Being obedient to God does come with persecution and is costly. It will cost you friendships, family, reputation, careers, etc. But when you find a pearl of great price, you hold on to it, and there is no amount of money, fame, or success that can make you give it up.
My entire life is His. I am here today to speak to you because of Him and Him only.
His love and acceptance is enough for me.
