Inspiring Conversations with Elizabeth Thomas of Loving Me Is Key!

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Thomas.

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into mental health counseling didn’t begin in a classroom — it began in my own lived experience. I grew up in an environment marked by abuse and silence, and I learned early what it felt like to navigate pain without support. Those experiences could have broken me, but instead they pushed me toward purpose. They planted the seed for what would eventually become Loving Me Is Key!
As I grew personally and professionally, one thing became clear: I genuinely love helping people. My own journey toward self love showed me that healing is possible, and more importantly, that it can be taught. The more I learned to love myself, the more I realized I could show others how to do the same. That realization shaped the heart of my work and the way I show up for every client.
I entered the mental health field with a mission to create the kind of space I needed when I was younger — a space where people feel seen, validated, and safe enough to heal. I pursued my education with determination, became a Licensed Professional Counselor, and later expanded into forensic mental health so I could support individuals and families facing complex emotional and legal challenges.
Today, I am the Founder and Lead Clinician Director of a growing practice rooted in trauma informed care, advocacy, and compassion. I proudly serve diverse communities, including the LGBTQ+ population — a group I am deeply passionate about supporting. Creating affirming, inclusive spaces is essential to me, and I am committed to making sure every person who walks through my doors feels respected, valued, and understood.
My work blends clinical expertise with lived understanding, allowing me to connect with clients on a deeper level. Whether I’m providing therapy, conducting forensic evaluations, or educating communities, I lead with empathy, strength, and the belief that healing begins when people finally feel heard — and when they learn to love themselves again.
My story is one of resilience, reinvention, and purpose. I turned my pain into power, and now I use that power to help others do the same.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road definitely hasn’t been smooth. My journey has been shaped by challenges that forced me to grow, stretch, and confront parts of myself I once tried to avoid. Coming from a childhood marked by abuse and emotional neglect, I had to learn how to heal while simultaneously building a life and a career. That alone was a journey — trying to show up for others while still learning how to show up for myself.

Starting my practice wasn’t easy either. There were moments when I questioned whether I was doing enough, whether I was ready, or whether I could truly build something meaningful out of my pain and my purpose. Balancing motherhood, education, financial stress, and the emotional weight of the work took a toll. There were times when I felt overwhelmed, misunderstood, or unsupported.

But every struggle taught me something. I learned resilience. I learned how to advocate for myself. I learned how to trust my vision even when the path wasn’t clear. And most importantly, I learned that the same compassion and self‑love I teach my clients had to be extended to myself first.

The road hasn’t been smooth, but it has been transformative. Every obstacle pushed me closer to the woman, the clinician, and the leader I am today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Loving Me Is Key!?
Loving Me Is Key! Counseling & Forensic Services is more than a practice to me — it’s a movement, a safe space, and a reflection of everything I stand for. I created this organization with one core belief: when people learn to love themselves, they unlock the power to heal, grow, and transform their lives. My business is built on that foundation.
I provide trauma informed mental health therapy and specialized forensic services, including custody evaluations, forensic mental health assessments, and court involved support. I’m known for blending clinical expertise with lived experience, which allows me to connect with clients in a way that feels real, human, and deeply supportive. My approach is compassionate but direct, professional but relatable, and always centered on helping people feel seen and understood.
What sets my practice apart is the heart behind it. I don’t just offer services — I offer a space where people can rediscover themselves. I’m proud that my brand represents empowerment, authenticity, and healing. Loving Me Is Key! is built on the idea that self love is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. And I want every client, every family, and every reader to know that when they walk through my doors or virtual, they’re entering a judgment free zone where their voice matters.
Brand wise, I’m most proud of the message behind my name. It’s simple, but it’s powerful. It reminds people that healing starts within, and that they have the ability to reclaim their confidence, their identity, and their peace. My services reflect that mission — whether I’m providing therapy, conducting forensic evaluations, or guiding someone through a difficult life transition, my goal is always to help them reconnect with themselves.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If I could give one piece of advice to anyone just starting out, it would be this: give yourself permission to grow. When I first began my journey, I thought I had to have everything figured out — the perfect plan, the perfect confidence, the perfect timing. But the truth is, you learn as you go. You evolve. You make mistakes. You adjust. And that’s exactly how you build something real.
I wish I knew earlier that I didn’t have to be “ready” to start. I spent a lot of time doubting myself, questioning whether I was enough, or worrying about what others might think. Looking back, I realized that the only thing I truly needed was belief in my purpose. Everything else came with time, experience, and consistency.
My advice is to stay committed to your vision, even when the path feels unclear. Surround yourself with people who support your growth. Invest in your healing, because your personal development will always show up in your professional life. And most importantly, don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. Your story, your pace, and your purpose are uniquely yours.
Starting out can feel overwhelming, but it’s also one of the most powerful seasons of your life. Trust yourself. Take the leap. And remember that every step — even the hard ones — is shaping you into who you’re meant to become.
