Hi Jortae Avee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
At the age of six, I was introduced to fashion and creativity by my great-grandmother, who taught me many of the skills and values that continue to guide me today. Through her mentorship, I learned not only craftsmanship but also the importance of faith, consistency, and discipline. Those principles became the foundation of who I am as a woman, entrepreneur, and designer.
Over the years, I transformed that early passion into a career, building my brand and creating opportunities that allow me to share my creativity with others. Every challenge along the way has reinforced the lessons my great-grandmother instilled in me: stay committed to your vision, trust the process, and remain grounded in your faith. Today, my work is a reflection of those values, and I am grateful to carry forward the legacy she began while inspiring others to pursue their own dreams with purpose and determination.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Navigating three different sectors of the fashion industry over the past nine years has come with its share of challenges. I began as a local designer, later expanded into the fast-fashion space through partnerships such as SHEIN X, and have since repositioned my brand into the contemporary luxury market. Each transition required me to learn a new business model, understand a different customer demographic, and adapt to a higher standard of expectations.
The luxury market, in particular, has been a completely new landscape to navigate. Building credibility, reaching the right audience, and maintaining the level of craftsmanship and brand positioning required in this space has been both challenging and rewarding. While I am still evolving and learning, these experiences have strengthened my resilience, sharpened my business acumen, and reinforced the importance of staying true to my vision. Every obstacle has been an opportunity to grow, and I continue to embrace the journey as I build a brand rooted in legacy, innovation, and purpose.
