Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Raport.
Hi Anna , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I originally started as a kid of a pretty poor blended family from Pennsylvania. My mother was Puerto Rican and Father is White. Grew up with two culturally different parents but raised very American. Growing up through struggle I knew I always wanted to make sure I secured a career that would set me up financially to not struggle and live a much more stable live then I grew up in.
I was always pretty good at school and it came pretty easy to me but I hated going to school. I knew I wanted to go to college from a pretty young age.
Once I got to college I had no clue that I would flounder about for years until I could figure out what I wanted to do. I spent 6 years trying different majors from Veterinarian, Paramedic to Physicians Assistant.
I took an elective course in the summer and my teacher was a sex therapist. She opened my eyes to really understanding sexuality, pleasure, culture and dynamics. I was so intrigued to learn more about myself but ultimately help others learn about themselves, help them reach their sexual potential and start living a live with more sensuality, pleasure and vitality!
So at the last minute I changed my major and winded up getting into a masters program very late into the admission application process and change my whole trajectory! Imagine my family hearing I was going to become a Sex Therapist! They were definitely surprised! So I went through school and started Raport Counseling Center! My very own Couples Counseling & Sex Therapy Practice right out of school and here I am thriving 9 years later as it has grown into a small group practice!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been quite an adventure to figure out how to run and grow a business. They didn’t teach you in school how to create and run a business. They only taught you how to become a great therapist! I was clueless. I lacked structure and systems! Then Covid hit and everything changed! People went from in person to virtual and my caseload took a hit! During that time I took some business coaching courses that changed my practice dramatically. I learned how to manage the business more effectively, how to market to my ideal clients, Them my practice bloomed!
Now I had the problem of I’m too busy and was working too much! Now I had to hire! Which was a whole other world! The learning curve is ever changing with managing a team.
What I have learned is life as a practice owner is like a river constantly moving and changing. You must be open to change! I’ve had many ups and a few downs but love the journey!
We’ve been impressed with Raport Counseling Center LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own Raport Counseling Center LLC. We specialize and are known for Couples Counseling and Sex Therapy. Our Vision is to help individuals and couples bridge the intimacy gap in their life and relationships to create a healthy, fulfilling, and passionate life.
We specialize in couples struggling with communication, infidelity, sexless marriage, desire discrepancies, etc.
We help individuals with out of control sexual behavior/porn addiction, performance anxiety, sex after cancer, and sexual pain disorders,
We offer workshops as well to help couples reignite desire, learn communication skills, gain confidence in the bedroom!
I am most proud of our ability to meet our clients where they are and to talk freely without judgement. I help my clients feel safe enough to talk about what most are nervous or afraid to speak about sex and intimacy!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Starting a business is a risk for anyone to take. It has been the biggest and scariest endeavor that I’ve done to date! To rely on yourself for your livelihood is a huge risk and takes a lot of trust, perseverance and determination!
I however would not consider myself much of a risk taker. I am pretty calculated I like routine and schedules.
