Hi Kelsey , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My passion for design began at a very young age. I spent countless hours decorating a custom dollhouse my grandfather built for me, which sparked my love for creating beautiful, inviting spaces. I eventually pursued a degree in Fashion Merchandising at the University of Delaware and went on to spend a decade working as a fashion buyer, where I developed a strong eye for color, styling, and product selection.
After purchasing my own home, I finally had the opportunity to put my creativity to work on a much larger scale. Friends and family began asking me for advice on their homes, and what started as casual design guidance quickly grew into full design plans. As the demand grew, I decided to turn my passion into a business and founded Kelsey May Interior Designs.
My design philosophy is centered around creating homes that feel beautiful, comfortable, and personal. I love incorporating character and charm into my projects and adding those special details that make a home feel like it has a story. I’m especially inspired by the way homes were designed in the past, when craftsmanship, architectural details, and thoughtful touches gave each home its own personality. I love bringing that same feeling into today’s homes through custom millwork, timeless materials, antiques, personal collections, and unexpected details.
I also believe a beautiful home should work for the people who live in it. As a mom of two, I understand how important it is for a space to be both functional and inviting. I take the time to understand how my clients live, what they love, and what is meaningful to them so that their home feels like a true reflection of their personality.
Whether I’m working on a new build or renovating an existing home, I love creating spaces that feel timeless, collected, and uniquely personal. beautiful homes that don’t feel overly designed, but rather as though they have evolved naturally over time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I think the challenges have been some of the most valuable parts of building my business. When I first started, I was learning an entirely new industry while also figuring out what it meant to run a business. As the company has grown, I’ve had to learn how to balance the creative side of design with the many other aspects of running a business, from managing projects and timelines to working with contractors, vendors, and clients.
There have certainly been growing pains along the way, but each obstacle has taught me something and helped me become more confident, not only as a designer, but as a business owner. I’ve learned to embrace the process, keep evolving, and stay true to the type of design and experience I want to create for my clients.

Kelsey May Interior Designs is a full-service interior design firm specializing in new builds, renovations, and thoughtfully designed residential spaces. I work closely with my clients from the initial concept through the final details, creating cohesive homes that are both beautiful and functional.
What sets my approach apart is my focus on creating spaces that feel personal, collected, and full of character. I don’t want a home to feel like it was designed all at once or look like it came straight from a showroom. I also pride myself on making the design process feel seamless for my clients. I take care of the details, from space planning and cabinetry to finishes, lighting, furniture, and decor, while collaborating with talented contractors and craftsmen to bring the vision to life. Ultimately, I want my clients to have a home that feels uniquely theirs and that they will love living in for years to come.
