Exploring Life & Business with Tanya Trewick Ryans MSN, APRN-C, PMHNP-BC of Emerge & Bloom Wellness LLC / Emerge Functional Health LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Trewick Ryans MSN, APRN-C, PMHNP-BC.

Hi Tanya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began my nursing journey at just 15 years old, but it was an experience at 17 that gave that journey its purpose. I walked into a patient’s room and discovered that he had passed away alone. As I walked back to the nurses’ station, I remember thinking that someone needed to be his voice. In that moment, I realized I wanted to be more than a healthcare provider—I wanted to be an advocate. By the time I graduated from high school, I was ready to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.

That calling carried me through more than 26 years in healthcare as I progressed from LPN to RN, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Today, I am a dual board-certified Family and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, with specialized training in functional and women’s health.

My experiences caring for diverse communities ultimately changed the way I wanted to practice. I wanted to create a space where people weren’t reduced to a diagnosis or a list of symptoms, but were cared for as whole people—physically, mentally, and emotionally. That vision eventually became the foundation for the two practices I lead today.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. Entering nursing at 15 meant taking on adult responsibilities while I was still finding my own voice. I learned early that I sometimes had to work harder to earn trust because people equated my age with my ability.

Later, the challenges became bigger than my own. I watched patients struggle to get the care they needed because of finances, transportation, limited support, and gaps in mental health services. At the same time, I was balancing family, work, continuing my education, and eventually entrepreneurship.

There were sacrifices along the way, but those difficult seasons taught me resilience and pushed me to keep growing. I’ve learned that sometimes the obstacles in your path are the very things that reveal your purpose. Looking back, I wouldn’t erase the difficult parts—they helped me become the advocate I set out to be at 17.

As you know, we’re big fans of Emerge & Bloom Wellness LLC / Emerge Functional Health LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Today, my journey has grown into two distinct but connected practices, each designed to meet people at different points in their health journey.

Emerge and Bloom Wellness LLC provides psychiatric care in Pennsylvania and Delaware and accepts insurance, helping make mental healthcare more accessible. My approach includes psychiatric medication management and individualized treatment, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), giving patients practical tools to better understand and manage the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

Emerge Functional Health LLC is a cash-based practice serving Delaware, focused on hormone health, weight management, and functional wellness. Rather than looking at an isolated symptom, we explore the different factors that may be influencing how someone feels and functions. We also offer comprehensive wellness packages with the support of a wellness coach, providing patients with ongoing guidance, accountability, and encouragement as they work toward sustainable health goals.

What connects both brands is my perspective as a dual board-certified Family and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I don’t believe mental and physical health exist in separate boxes—they often influence one another. That allows me to approach care through a broader lens while still recognizing that every person’s needs and journey are unique.

What I’m most proud of is what “Emerge” represents. It’s more than a business name; it reflects the experience I want to create across both practices: a place where people feel heard, supported, and empowered to move forward—and ultimately emerge healthier, stronger, and more confident in their own lives.

What matters most to you?
People matter most to me.

After more than 26 years in healthcare, I’ve learned that people may not remember every detail of their treatment, but they remember whether they felt heard, supported, and cared for.

My faith and family are the foundation of who I am. My faith has taught me to trust God’s direction, even when I couldn’t see the entire path, and to view caring for others as more than a career—it is part of my purpose. My family keeps me grounded and reminds me that true success is also about being present, loving well, and leaving something meaningful behind.

At 17, I knew I wanted to be a voice for someone who could no longer speak for himself. Today, that calling continues as I help people find their own voice in their health and healing.

Ultimately, I hope my legacy reflects the faith that guided me, the family that grounded me, and the people I was blessed to serve along the way.
