Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve loved beauty and makeup since as long as I can remember. Being an identical twin, I loved the idea of not only using makeup as a form of artistic expression, but also as being able to individualize yourself in your own unique way through that creativity. I went to Penn State and graduated with a Marketing and Business degree, and worked in the industry prior to getting pregnant, but always felt like the corporate “9 to 5” setting was not for me. I longed for an environment where I could be creative and follow my passion! After my own twins were born (Yes! More twins!!) I stayed home to be with them through the pre-school years, but after they were ready to start elementary, I was at a crossroads with my career. Do I go back to the rigamarole of a Corporate career, or follow my heart and pursue my passion? I decided to do just that! I went back to school and got certified as a Professional Makeup Artist and followed my dream. I have been so fortunate in the relationships I have built, being able to collaborate with other amazing business owners over the years! Primarily, my good friend and small business owner, Rachel Mento who owns Boutique on Thirty, a beautiful women’s clothing boutique right in the heart of Downingtown. Several years ago she brought me into her original location, to collaborate and share her space, and several years later we moved/reopened a new space in town together! Glitz Beautiful and Boutique on Thirty reunited! I was also one of the very first artists to bring the extremely popular, Hair Glitter to our area, adding beautiful, silk “Glitz Extensions” to my clients hair, helping them sparkle from the inside out! Over the years I have been fortunate enough to build a beautiful following and supportive, encouraging community within Downingtown and the surrounding areas. I have worked on an Emmy Award winning TV show, been a finalist in the Best of the Mainline, and even Sparkled with the Philadelphia Eagles for the Eagles Autism Foundation! A dream come true. At Glitz Beautiful, we provide first class Makeup and Hair Glitz artistry, helping you find your sparkle, from the inside out!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We have all had struggles! But one of my biggest was definitely Covid! Just as my makeup business was taking off, the pandemic hit! And while it certainly impacted many industries across the world, the beauty industry was very hard hit! All events stopped, and so did our businesses! Trying to adhere to the strict health and safety guidelines, while social distancing, made things extremely challenging. Especially for those of us extroverts who couldn’t love on our people as we do! <3 Thankfully, as we all know, there was eventually a positive ending to the crisis, and we could resume business as usual! So grateful to be able to be with my sweet Community again!!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Professional Makeup and Glitz hair artist! I’m known for my sparkly and colorful vibe, which I try to transfer as much into my work as my personality! 💖✨ I try to be positive and encouraging, and help my clients realize their inner beauty as well as the outer. I treat our time together as therapy in a way… Both for myself and for my clients! My goal is for the people I work with to leave our sessions feeling beautiful, confident, and with the lighter spirit💕
How do you define success?
I have always loved the quote by Elsie de Wolf: “I am going to make everything around me beautiful—that will be my life.”
If one single person can leave our time together feeling beautiful, confident, and just a tiny bit better about themselves… That’s what it’s all about! Success is making a difference in someone’s life, being the person who helps them see themselves the way I see them, and lifting their spirit ❤️
