Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Moyer.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My goal with Happy Go Creative has always been simple: to give people a place to connect. Making things with your hands has this amazing way of taking the pressure off of socializing. It cuts through the social jitters and brings back a sense of playfulness. Since I’ve always been a maker and connector at heart, building a business around that felt like the most natural thing in the world.
Looking back, the growth happened in tiny, deliberate steps. I started small by borrowing spaces—running an elementary craft club out of an ice cream shop and hosting “Women Create and Connect” nights (think friend speed-dating, but with art prompts) in local cafés. Eventually, a tiny and affordable studio opened up in a shared building, and I jumped at it. Having a spot of my own allowed me to host more events and experiment more with programming. A few months in, I took over the adjoining room, doubling my space (though it was still pretty cozy!). After a full year of testing the waters there, a ground-floor studio opened up just around the corner, and I knew it was time to officially plant our roots.
Today, everything at the studio centers around connecting through art and craft making. Here is a snapshot of what’s happening in the space:
– For Kids: Art & Friendship Clubs and hands-on Craft Camps.
– For Tweens & Teens: Social Crochet Club.
– For Adults: Social Craft Clubs (including our Book Lovers Craft Club, Watercolor Social, and Creative Women Connect).
– For Celebrations: Private Craft Parties for all ages.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building this has been a labor of love, and it definitely comes with its hurdles. My biggest challenge is simply getting the word out. Between constantly changing online algorithms, social media noise, and only so many hours in the day, marketing is a full-time job in itself. Despite those hurdles, watching the community grow makes every bit of effort worth it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Out of everything I do, I’m probably most proud of our kids’ camps. I’ve built a space where kids have freedom to explore materials on their own terms. Kids spend a lot of time in adult-directed spaces, but at Happy Go Creative, I’ve created a space where they get to have a bit more freedom and autonomy over what and how they explore. Our studio is a space to connect, create, unwind, and try some new things!
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
None of this would be possible on my own. My husband has been my cheerleader from day one, and a few close friends rallied around me early on which really helped to get me where I am today. Most of all, I’m grateful for the families who trust me with their kids, come back every single summer, and show up for our year-round clubs. They’re the real heart of this studio.
