Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail Jerri.
Hi Abigail, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pa. I have always known that I wanted to do something special with my voice. I would write songs in my journal when I was very young and I was able to bring them to life at my first professional studio session when I was 14. With a reggae band, (the wizdom band) I started performing my original songs around Pittsburgh when I was 16. I released my song “Bad Girl” and enjoyed performing at fashion shows and working with other local artists. I loved my local hometown scene but I knew I also needed to branch out. Nashville called my name when I got accepted to the Judy Stakee songwriting retreat in 2017. I ended up making great connections and moved to the city shortly after the retreat. I started working with some great producers and CO writers and started releasing more music. I also started writing for other artists, which I love doing. I got the Exit/In tattooed on me the night before my first performance there. Performing at Topnotch Tuesdays, writers rounds, and many other events and venues has been so fun. I am so thankful for the community that I have met along the way 🩷
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing up, I had close family members with mental health struggles. As much as it continues to be an obstacle, because my loved ones are always on my mind, I feel this has helped me become a more understanding person and also gives me different perspectives in life and as an artist. Some of my first lyrics were about this.
I also have some of my own mental blocks and writers blocks that most artists have.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I write songs for myself as an artist and for other artists as well. I sing originals and covers at music venues and events. I also love to help behind the scenes of Mt own music video shoots and other artists shoots.
What are your plans for the future?
Although I have been doing live shows and been writing, I haven’t released new music in about 4 years. I plan on changing this in 2027 as I am working on new music now. I also have some experiences from my journey that I am ready to sing about that I have not yet expressed in past released projects. I plan on inspiring others to be truly themselves. None of us is perfect. Music is always here for us and I will continue to be a part of the expression and the community. 🩷
