Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiara Dinkins.
Hi Tiara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had an affinity for art. Even as a child, I loved experimenting with bold color combinations that most people wouldn’t think to put together. As I grew older, my passion evolved into creating portraits that capture the unique essence and personality of each subject. Over the years, I’ve explored a variety of artistic mediums, and that creative journey ultimately led me to discover my true passion—working with acrylic paint.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I attended an arts middle school and high school, and by the time I graduated, art had started to feel more like an assignment than something I genuinely enjoyed. Because of that, I stepped away from creating for a few years. When I finally returned to painting, I faced a different challenge—overcoming self-doubt. I found myself constantly comparing my work and skill level to other artists, which made it difficult to appreciate my own growth. Learning to focus on my unique artistic voice instead of comparison has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in abstract portraits, and that’s what I’m best known for. I’m also recognized for my bold, vibrant use of color. What sets my work apart is my ability to blend abstract with realism and creating portraits that are expressive while still capturing the essence of the subject. That’s something I’m especially proud of because each piece is unique and reflects my own artistic style and vision.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is receiving an art kit in a beautiful wooden case. It was filled with everything I could imagine—paints, oil pastels, colored pencils, and so many other art supplies. I remember being so excited because it gave me the freedom to explore my creativity and experiment with different mediums. Looking back, that gift played a big role in nurturing my love for art and inspiring the artist I’ve become today.
