Hi Jesse, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Our family has lived on this farm for four generations. For many years it was a working dairy farm. To help provide for our family, we started inviting visitors to the farm to see what life is like on an Amish farm. We never expected it to grow the way it did. People enjoyed their visits and told their friends and family. As more people came, we felt led to spend more of our time welcoming guests. Eventually, we sold our dairy herd so we could focus on sharing the farm with visitors. Today, guests can milk a cow, feed baby calves, gather eggs, hold baby animals, and enjoy a hayride around the farm. At different times of the year, they can also work in the garden, churn butter, press apple cider, bake bread, can soup, or make pumpkin pies.
Our faith is an important part of our lives. We thank God for this farm and try to honor Him in the way we live, work, and treat others. We enjoy sharing a little of our Amish way of life with the families who visit.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every year has its own challenges. Most of our income comes during the spring and summer when people visit the farm. During the winter months, things are much quieter, so we have to be careful with what we have and trust God to provide for our family.
The weather is another thing we cannot control. Rain, heat, or other unexpected things can change our plans, especially during our busiest seasons. We have learned that our plans do not always happen the way we expect.
Through it all, God has always been faithful. We are thankful that He has given us this farm and the opportunity to welcome people here.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a fourth-generation Amish family living and farming on the same farm our family has called home for many years. We are thankful to God for allowing us to make our living here and raise our family on this land.
It is a blessing to welcome visitors to our farm and share a little of our way of life. We enjoy showing families where their food comes from and giving them the chance to milk a cow, feed baby calves, gather eggs, and hold baby animals.
Our hope is that when people leave, they have a better understanding of farming, a greater appreciation for the work that goes into producing food, and thankfulness to God for His many blessings.
