Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Jenkins.
Hi Jordan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a lowkey fascination with cameras/photography, but it didn’t click for me until my Junior year of college in 2017. A friend at the time always wanted me to take photos for them to post on social media and in the midst of the many times they had asked me to take photos for them, I caught a glimpse of “Given that I’m doing this so much, and how much effort I’m putting towards it to get a quality image, I can get paid and make a career out of this”. Fast forward a few months, I use my tuition reimbursement to purchase my first camera from Amazon and it’s been up ever since, although I didn’t start taking the skill seriously until 2020 in the midst of COVID, realizing that I’m sitting on this skill and that it’s time for me to get off my ass and get to it. Made the decision to go full-time in 2022. Opened up my first studio two months later and just never looked back.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not! There’s been friendships that have been broken off, fallen into a deep depression which prohibited my income flow and lead to me getting into a car accident which lead to me needing to go back to a 9-5 for a month (which I quit after I got my car repaired), moving with my dad for a couple months because a relationship didn’t last, needing to move from my first studio because the landlord at the time wasn’t the greatest and the ac was broke in the middle of summer
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I founded and operate a luxury photography business where we create help people feel seen through intentional imagery and experience. We are known for our signature experiences which are our Women Over 40 Portrait Series, and our Men Over 40 Portrait Series. We specialize in Executive Headshots, Branding, and Family Portraits.
I’m most proud of being able to accomplish what I have known myself to be able to accomplish so far., as well as things like hosting multiple Galas for our Portrait Series and just being a beacon for light and hope to spread.
Being the vessel for where people willingly come to document their story, and presence with the goal of contributing to the positive domino effect is what I’d say sets us apart, because it’s truly what the core purpose is behind all that I do as an individual as well as professionally
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
It’s necessary. If you want something you never had, you gotta do something you never did. Betting on myself will always be the biggest risk I’m willing to take. I’ve always had no interest in working for someone else, and if I did, it wasn’t for long. I’ve quit several jobs, but more specifically the first one I was fresh out of college, so it was my first intro into the “real world”. Making the most money I’ve ever made in my Life at the time, but it was then when I officially realized working for others just wasn’t for me, nor was it worth sacrificing my wellbeing for. So I quit with no plan, but I had faith and trusted in myself that I would be ok. Shortly after Covid happened and the city went on lockdown. I needed money so I was delivering packages for Amazon out of my car doing Amazon Flex. That was cool for the time but I wasnt satisfied with it. So I went official with my photography business and got the legal paperwork done and allowed that to be my focus and priority.
You gotta jump to activate your wings.
