Community Highlights: Meet Tara Treloar of Wildwood photography and my studio is wildwood studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Treloar.

Hi Tara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Photography has been a part of my life since high school, when it started as a hobby. I spent those early years photographing sports, traveling with my camera, and capturing the outdoors whenever I could. About two years ago, I decided to take the leap and get my LLC. once my daughter was born I decided to turn my passion into a full-time career. It was one of the biggest decisions I’ve ever made, but it has been incredibly rewarding. Since then, my business has continued to grow, and I’m excited to be opening my very first photography studio on August 1. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how a hobby I fell in love with years ago has turned into a career I truly enjoy every day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No journey is ever a straight or completely smooth and mine has definitely had its challenges. Like any small business owner, I’ve faced moments of uncertainty, long hours, and learning curves. But every obstacle has helped me grow, both as a photographer and as a business owner. The most rewarding part has been connecting with other photographers and creatives who share the same passion and mindset. Having a supportive community to learn from, collaborate with, and encourage one another has made the journey even more meaningful, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
One thing that sets my business apart is that I don’t believe you have to fit into one niche. I love the variety that photography offers. One day I might be capturing a wedding, the next I’m photographing a newborn, a growing family, or an adventurous couples session. While my long-term dream is to become a full-time elopement photographer, I never want to give up documenting all of life’s other meaningful moments.

One of the things I’m most proud of is opening my very first photography studio. I wanted it to be more than just a place to take photos, I created it as a welcoming space for photographers, creatives, workshops, content days, and community. My goal is for every client to feel like they’re getting so much more than just a photography session. I want them to leave with an experience, genuine memories, and images that tell their story in an authentic way.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that surprises most people is that I’ve played hockey since I was four years old, including at the collegiate level. Even more surprising, I was a goalie and spent most of my childhood playing on boys’ teams. At just 5 feet tall, I’m probably not what most people picture when they think of a hockey goalie! Hockey taught me discipline, resilience, and how to perform under pressure—qualities that have carried over into running my business and serving my clients.
