Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Patterson.
Joe, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My barbering journey started early. In the 8th grade, I picked up clippers to cut my own hair. By the next year, my friends and teammates were lining up. Throughout high school, my mom’s basement became my first unofficial shop. Even while attending the California University of Pennsylvania, my off-campus house was the go-to spot for a fresh cut.I decided to turn my passion into a career through a professional apprenticeship. After earning my state hours, I passed the state board exam in 2015 to become a licensed Pennsylvania barber. I spent the next six years sharpening my skills at a highly respected local barbershop. Finally, in 2019, I took the ultimate step and opened my own shop. I love bringing years of dedication, experience, and craft to every client who sits in my chair
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Is it even possible to have a smooth journey when nothing is handed to you? Personally, I’ve always had to earn everything—it’s just who I am. Starting from scratch gave me a strange kind of comfort in high-stress situations, the kind that usually cause people to throw in the towel or doubt their choices. Don’t get me wrong, I still doubt myself and want to quit sometimes. I did plenty of both when I opened a service industry business the exact same year Covid hit. Trying to build a company and raise a family during a global crisis while juggling bills was exhausting. Having to shut our doors right after launching is something I’ll never forget. What a wild ride it’s been.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Always continuing learning! Never be a closed book, always be willing to listen, to learn. Never shy away from a challenge, embrace those challenges or they will break you. Find peace in the struggles, there’s a lesson in there somewhere. believe in yourself, for self-belflief is your greatest foundation. DONT QUIT!
