Today we’d like to introduce you to Rose Lamoureux.
Hi Rose, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi, I’m Rose. Numbers fanatic. Arts junkie. Dog rescuer.
By the time I reached the ripe old age of nine, my father taught me to balance the bank account for the family. While it was something my sleuthing hands and mind loved to do, I was always more in love with the arts.
But after earning my Acting & Directing Degree, I bounced around from theater to theater and role to role, eventually dropping out after hearing three bizarre words from multiple directors: You’re too young.
Instead of duking it out with other actresses for lead roles, I decided to combine my creative passion with my head for numbers: I started offering bookkeeping services for performing arts organizations.
Eventually, I expanded into other areas equally I’m passionate about: social justice, education, nonprofits, health & wellness, and animal rights.
That was 30 wild and wonderful years ago.
My segue into entrepreneurship inspired me to formally establish Rose Knows Bookkeeping in 2024—alongside my two favorite sidekicks and rescue dogs: Chaplin and Bebop.
As your outsourced bookkeeper based in Pittsburgh, PA, I’m your financial detective. I offer business insights, strategic recommendations, and plenty of dry (very dry) wit.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was a struggle for the first year because I was also working a full time job while growing my business. I met a lot of great people along the way. The biggest challenge was getting my first client, which took 8 months from the time I established my business. Along with that challenge was also time management. I worked evenings and weekends to get established. I rarely had a day off for over a year. The physical and mental challenges of staying motivated and upbeat were hard many days. Then, because I’m in my 60’s, many of my colleagues and friends were already retired or thinking of retiring. They would wonder why I would start a business at my age.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Rose Knows Bookkeeping?
I’m not just an ace bookkeeper. I’m an art fanatic, mission-driven professional, and dry humor lover. I provide customized service and pricing for businesses. Every business is different with unique needs and challenges. I work with owners to ensure that what they need is addressed and supported. Nothing cookie cutter, including my pricing. I am most proud branding wise of featuring my two rescue pups as part of my team.
I brand myself as a kook. I love to laugh, but I take my responsibilities very seriously. Bad jokes are offered at no extra charge.
The services I offer are:
Account set up, bookkeeping clean ups, payroll set up and processing, 1099 filings, bank and credit card reconciliation, budget set up and cash flow forecasting, accounts payable and receivable, and financial reporting.
I am able to support any business within the US.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve experienced a lot of adversity in my life. As a former professional actor, rejection and scraping by was a way of life. I have some health challenges that sometimes will prevent me from doing backflips and tightrope walking (ahaha just kidding, I can’t walk and talk at the same time without tripping), but I always manage to land on my feet, figuratively speaking. I always have in the back of my mind that I will manage to come out on top and be able to move forward. I am also a firm believer in giving more than receiving, and somehow the universe has had my back, through hospitalizations, family deaths, divorce, and job losses. I reinvented myself and now share my life with my talented husband who is an amazing partner-in-crime and my best cheerleader. He, my rescue pups, and my business has actually sustained me spiritually, emotionally, and financially more than ever.
