Conversations with Nancy Laverde

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Laverde.

Hi Nancy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My photography journey began when I was a stay-at-home mom when my second baby was born (now I have three beautiful children; 2 girls 14 & 12 and a 5 year old boy) looking for a creative outlet while being there for my kids. After leaving my job as a paralegal, I began decorating my home and sharing those photos on Instagram. Friends started noticing my eye for capturing moments, and soon they asked me to take their photos. I hesitated at first, but after taking classes at York College, my passion grew!! Today, Juna Love Photography gives me the opportunity and balance I so deeply love. It allows me to support my family, serve my church & community through freedom of time management, connect with people and express my creativity. It’s truly a perfect harmony between what matters most to me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
t has been both rewarding and challenging. In the beginning, one of the biggest struggles was balancing my husband’s work schedule with my kids, especially since we didn’t have any family here in the Pennsylvania. When I started, my kids were still small (and then I got pregnant with my third) so finding people we could trust to care for them was something I had to work through. As time went on and the kids got older, things became easier. I always knew this would be a gradual process. I entered this with the understanding that it would take time to build my business, develop a reputation, and create trust within the community!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a family portrait & lifestyle photographer, and I specialize in capturing the essence of families during their most meaningful milestones. Whether it’s engagements, birthdays, graduations, maternity, or newborn sessions. sessions I’m especially known in York for my natural, organic style, focusing on lifestyle shots that aren’t overly posed, but instead really capture that love and connection between people.

What I’m most proud of is the deep connections I’ve been able to build with the people who come to me. I don’t just see them as clients; so many of them become friends. We grow together as they return to me for different sessions throughout their lives from engagements, elopements, to pregnancy announcements, maternity, newborns, and all those milestones. I’m also really proud of my branding photography, where I specialize in naturally posed headshots, highlighting each person’s passion and what their business is all about. It’s that ongoing relationship that really sets me apart and keeps me so inspired!

What makes you happy?
What makes me the most happy is my being with my family, serving God, and serving my community. Everything I do revolves around those things; my decisions, my goals, and my sense of purpose. I also love to travel!! Exploring new places, visiting historic sites, and trying different foods and coffee shops. That sense of discovery, alongside my faith and family, is what keeps me grounded and joyful. I count my blessings everyday and try to live a life in gratitude 🙏🏼
