Today we’d like to introduce you to Edwin Feijoo.
Hi Edwin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I learned the business from my grandfather and uncle before I was old enough to drive. They taught me how to test precious metals, negotiate fairly, and understand the value of what people brought through the door. Those lessons became my foundation.
At seventeen, I took a chance that many people thought was crazy. I opened my first business instead of finishing high school. Looking back, it wasn’t the easy path, but it was the right one for me.
Over the years, I made mistakes.
I opened in the wrong market because I believed the common assumption that lower-income neighborhoods would generate more gold-selling business. I spent years proving myself wrong.
I learned that keeping overhead low is one of the greatest competitive advantages a small business can have.
I learned to reinvest profits instead of spending them.
I learned that reputation is worth more than advertising.
Most importantly, I learned that every customer deserves honesty and respect.
I never looked at customers as transactions.
I looked at them as people.
Many of them came back.
Many referred their friends and family.
Some have been doing business with me for years.
That kind of loyalty can’t be bought. It has to be earned.
When I opened my Bethlehem location, many people probably overlooked it because it was only 300 square feet.
I saw something different.
I saw opportunity.
That small shop became the most successful location I’ve ever owned because I focused on what mattered—not appearances, but a place you can feel safe and comfortable. A place you will be treated with respect and fairness, because it’s not that hard to be a decent human being.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When people see a successful business today, they often assume the journey was easy.
It wasn’t.
Every successful business has struggles that most people never see.
Mine was no different.
Some of my biggest mistakes weren’t dramatic failures. They were decisions that quietly held me back for years.
For nearly twenty years, I operated in a lower-income market because I believed that people who needed money would be the most likely to sell gold.
It seemed logical.
It was also wrong.
Looking back, I realize I limited my own growth because I believed an assumption instead of questioning it. Once I moved into a more affluent area, everything changed. The average transaction increased, the customer base grew, and the business reached levels I never thought possible.
Sometimes your biggest obstacle isn’t hard work.
It’s believing something that simply isn’t true.
Another struggle was learning how to handle money.
When I first started making profits, it was tempting to spend them.
Like many young business owners, I enjoyed seeing money in the bank.
But I eventually realized that the money belonged to the business before it belonged to me.
Every dollar I reinvested into inventory, advertising, equipment, and growth created opportunities for even greater success later.
That change in mindset transformed my business.
There were also difficult economic times.
Gold prices changed.
Markets changed.
Customer behavior changed.
The internet changed how people searched for businesses.
Every challenge forced me to adapt instead of complaining.
Then came COVID.
For many businesses, it was one of the hardest periods in modern history.
Like everyone else, I faced uncertainty. No one knew what the future would look like.
Instead of standing still, I focused on what I could control.
I concentrated my efforts on my Bethlehem location, simplified my operation, and continued serving customers.
Looking back, that decision became another turning point in my career.
The business continued to grow.
The biggest struggle, however, wasn’t financial.
It was mental.
Owning a business means carrying responsibility every single day.
Employees depend on you.
Customers trust you.
Bills have to be paid whether business is good or bad.
There are nights when you lie awake thinking about decisions that no one else even knows you have to make.
There are days when you question yourself.
There are moments when you wonder if you’re making the right decisions.
Every business owner experiences those moments.
The difference is whether you let those moments stop you.
I never expected business to be easy.
I expected it to be worth it.
Looking back now, every mistake taught me something.
Every setback forced me to improve.
Every difficult decision made me a better businessman.
If I could erase every struggle from my journey, I wouldn’t.
Because the struggles built the business just as much as the successes did.
Success isn’t the absence of problems.
Success is learning how to solve them without giving up.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
For more than 26 years, I have dedicated my career to helping people understand the true value of their precious metals while providing an honest, transparent, and professional buying experience. What began as a small family business has grown into one of the region’s most recognized gold buying businesses through one simple philosophy: treat every customer with honesty and respect.
We specialize in purchasing gold, silver, platinum, coins, bullion, jewelry, and other precious metals. Our focus has never been on pressuring customers into selling. Instead, we educate them, explain how their items are evaluated, and make sure they understand exactly what they have before making an offer. I believe an informed customer is a confident customer.
What sets our business apart is that we don’t view people as transactions. Every customer has a story, and every person who walks through our doors deserves to be treated with dignity, whether they’re selling a single gold ring or an entire estate. Building relationships has always been more important to me than making a quick profit. That philosophy has created repeat customers, referrals, and a reputation that has taken decades to build.
Over the years, I’ve learned that success isn’t determined by the size of your building or the amount of money you spend on advertising. It’s determined by the trust you earn. That’s why we’ve focused on keeping our overhead low, investing in our customers’ experience, and maintaining a strong reputation both in our community and online.
I’m especially proud that our growth has been built organically. We didn’t become successful because of flashy marketing or expensive locations. We became successful because customers continued recommending us to their friends and family. That kind of trust cannot be bought—it has to be earned, one customer at a time.
Today, our business is also committed to helping people invest in physical precious metals through gold and silver bullion. We believe bullion offers customers a straightforward way to own tangible assets without many of the challenges associated with the traditional jewelry market.
If there’s one thing I want readers to remember about our brand, it’s this: our business has never really been about gold. Gold is simply what brings people through the door. What we’ve built over the past two decades is a business founded on integrity, fairness, education, and genuine relationships. Those values have guided every decision we’ve made, and they will continue to define our business for years to come.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next five to ten years, I believe the precious metals industry will continue to evolve, but the fundamentals will remain the same. People will always buy, inherit, and eventually sell gold, silver, coins, and bullion. What will change is how customers find businesses and what they expect from them.
The biggest shift I’ve seen over the past two decades has been the internet. When I first started, customers found you through newspaper ads, Yellow Pages, or simply by driving past your storefront. Today, nearly every customer starts with a Google search. That trend will only become more important. Businesses that invest in their online presence, maintain strong customer reviews, and make it easy for customers to find accurate information will have a significant advantage.
I also believe customers are becoming more educated. Before walking into a gold buying business, many people research gold prices, read reviews, and compare multiple buyers online. That’s a positive change. It encourages honest businesses to be more transparent and rewards companies that build trust over time.
Technology will continue to improve the way precious metals are tested and evaluated. Equipment such as XRF analyzers is becoming more common, making transactions faster and providing customers with greater confidence in the evaluation process. While technology is a valuable tool, it will never replace experience, integrity, and good customer service.
I also expect continued growth in physical bullion investing. As people look for ways to diversify their savings and protect themselves during periods of economic uncertainty, many will continue to see gold and silver as long-term stores of value. That creates opportunities for businesses that can educate customers rather than simply sell to them.
One thing I don’t believe will ever change is the importance of reputation. In today’s world, a business’s reputation is visible for everyone to see. Online reviews, customer testimonials, and word-of-mouth recommendations are more powerful than any advertisement. Businesses that focus on honesty, transparency, and treating people with respect will continue to earn trust, while those that chase quick profits at the expense of their customers will struggle.
If I had one piece of advice for anyone entering this industry today, it would be this: don’t try to compete by being the cheapest or the loudest. Compete by being the most trusted. Markets will rise and fall. Gold prices will change. Technology will advance. But trust will always be the most valuable asset a business can own.
After more than 26 years in this business, that’s one prediction I’m confident will never go out of style.
