Today we’d like to introduce you to Genamarie Rosado.
Hi Genamarie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up in the Poconos, I never expected to build a business here. Like many young creatives, I left home – chasing a fast paced career in New York, then Los Angeles. But when the pandemic hit, I found myself packing up and moving back home to the mountains, unsure of my next plan.
It was during that unexpected transition that I was first introduced to the concept of luxury picnics. Something clicked. My community deserved a unique way to celebration life’s most beautiful moments, even when being indoors wasn’t an option.
As a proud Puerto Rican-American designer and world traveler, I took a leap in 2021 and founded Picturesque Luxury Picnics (PLP). A heartfelt love letter to the region that raised me.
After pioneering the area’s first mobile picnic concept, I watched the community quickly embrace the idea, and earning me the local nickname, the ‘Luxury Picnic Lady’™. Today, PLP has evolved into an award-winning design and coordination business specializing in custom picnics, refined tablescapes, and romantic room transformations. Beyond the amazing guests we work with, the true heart of this business is our local network. I’m incredibly proud to partner with and support regional entrepreneurs, from independent in-home bakers to large-scale vineyards.
For me, Picturesque Luxury Picnics is so much more than some picnic blankets. It’s about creating warm, beautiful spaces that gently remind people to slow down, connect, and celebrate life in a unique way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Behind every picture-perfect event is a mountain of trial and error. I didn’t start with a business degree or a mentor; I started from scratch with nothing but a clear vision and a credit card.
I had to learn how to own a business the hard way, and I’m still learning today. My first setups were light years away from the luxury designs we do today, my branding has had different identities, and my inventory spilled out of my spare bedroom before earning its own storage unit. Even my contracts were written in the aftermath of tough lessons – like updating our policies to address pet hair and glitter after hours spent cleaning up post picnic.
I’ve been rained out, kicked out of public parks, and left scrambling when caterers canceled minutes before an event. I’ve worked through heat waves, suffering through sunburns alongside my guests just to ensure a flawless execution.
There were seasons when the pressure was overwhelming. I’ve gone completely ghost on social media just because I didn’t want to deal with it, looked at a negative bank balance just to keep my website live, and spent a long time heavily undercharging for my labor.
But looking back, every rained-out event and financial stretch was a masterclass in resilience. They are the exact reasons our logistics are refined and our standards are unmatched. It hasn’t been an easy road, but it taught me exactly what it takes to create something built to last.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Picturesque Luxury Picnics (PLP) is a design and coordination company specializing in custom mobile picnics, tablescapes, and romantic room transformations. While the end result looks like an effortless, editorial dream, what we actually do is master the logistics of hospitality.
What truly sets us apart is our deeply rooted vision of community. Through a hyper-local partnership model, we’ve built an incredible network of support of fellow entrepreneurs – from independent creators to regional venues – with big plans to elevate and connect the luxury picnic industry on a global level.
We want your readers to know that we are truly just getting started; luxury picnics are just the tip of the iceberg. For now, we handle all the heavy lifting behind the scenes so our guests don’t have to, gifting them a worry-free space to simply slow down, and celebrate life’s milestones effortlessly. But looking ahead, we are focused on expanding this vision and building a true empire of curated event experiences and professional community resources.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk is not just a gamble; it’s the only true catalyst for reward. I operate on a very specific methodology in both my day-to-day business and my long-term empire building: the quicker you take risks, the quicker you make mistakes, and the quicker you learn exactly what it takes to become successful.
When I launched this business, I didn’t have a safety net, or any true guidance. I had a vision, a credit card, and a willingness to take risks. That meant diving headfirst into the chaotic business world and dealing with the fallout in real-time. To some, making mistakes equal failure, but to me, they are simply the data I need to evolve.
