Today we’d like to introduce you to Ersila Arthur.
Hi Ersila, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The Cake Vault is an immigrant- and woman-owned, by-appointment-only bakery specializing in bespoke wedding and celebration cakes. We create cakes that are designed to be just as memorable as the moments they celebrate—balancing striking design with exceptional flavor so clients never have to choose between beauty and taste.
My journey began long before The Cake Vault. I moved to the United States from Albania over a decade ago with plans to pursue a career in architecture. Design has always been a significant part of my life, but so has baking. While studying flavor combinations and working in the food industry, I realized cake design gave me a unique opportunity to combine both passions.
What started as a creative outlet quickly evolved into a business. My architectural background naturally influences the way I approach cake design. I think about proportion, structure, texture, and composition in much the same way an architect approaches a building. At the same time, I am deeply committed to flavor, because I believe a cake should taste every bit as incredible as it looks.
Today, The Cake Vault creates wedding and celebration cakes for clients throughout Philadelphia and beyond. Every cake begins with a story—the people being celebrated, the emotions behind the occasion, and the experience we want to create. My goal is always to design something that feels personal, meaningful, and unforgettable.
Over the years, The Cake Vault has been fortunate to receive recognition throughout Philadelphia’s food and wedding community. Our work has been featured in Philadelphia Wedding Magazine, FOX29 Good Day Philadelphia, and PHL17. We were honored to receive Philly Current Magazine’s PC Picks 2025 award for our Signature Squiggly Cake, create an 8-foot cake and a 50+ pound brûléed cheesecake for Delicious City Podcast’s Tasties Awards, design the Golden City Hall cake for their second Tasties celebration, and appear as a guest on Delicious City Podcast’s Episode 133.
As The Cake Vault continues to grow, I’m excited to expand our reach through weddings, corporate partnerships, and innovative dessert offerings while staying true to what inspired me from the beginning: creating edible art that brings people together.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Is it ever? Haha.
Every stage of the business has come with its own challenges. In the beginning, the hardest part was putting myself and my work out there enough for people to actually know I existed. You can be great at what you do, but if nobody knows about you, it doesn’t matter.
As more people started finding The Cake Vault, the challenges changed. Suddenly, it wasn’t about getting orders anymore—it was about creating systems and processes that could keep up with the growth while still delivering the quality and experience I wanted every client to have. Honestly, I’m still working on that as the business continues to grow.
Looking back, every exciting milestone started out as something that felt uncomfortable or intimidating. Entrepreneurship has taught me that if something scares me a little, that’s usually a sign I should lean into it. Most of my growth has come from stepping outside of my comfort zone and saying yes to opportunities before I felt completely ready.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Our slogan is, “A cake that tells your story,” and that really is the foundation of everything we do.
We specialize in bespoke wedding and celebration cakes throughout Philadelphia and beyond. Every design begins with a story—the people being celebrated, the occasion itself, and the feeling we want the cake to evoke. Rather than following trends, we focus on creating cakes that feel personal and meaningful to each client.
One thing that sets us apart is our approach to flavor. Our European roots have influenced the way we think about dessert. We tend to lean toward more balanced, less-sweet flavor profiles that allow ingredients to shine rather than overwhelming everything with sugar. We want people to remember how the cake tasted just as much as how it looked.
We’re also known for our signature long squiggly cake, which has become one of our most recognizable designs. On the completely opposite end of the spectrum, we’ve developed a bit of an obsession with oversized desserts. We created a 50+ pound brûléed cheesecake for the Delicious City Podcast Tasties Awards, and most recently made an almost 17-pound tiramisu. We love a challenge. There’s something really exciting about taking a classic dessert and scaling it into something unexpected.
What I’m most proud of is that we’ve built a business where design and flavor are equally important. People often assume a beautiful cake won’t taste great, or that a delicious cake can’t be visually striking. We’ve made it our mission to prove that you can absolutely have both.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We love collaborating with fellow artists, creatives, planners, photographers, florists, and other vendors who share a passion for creating memorable experiences.
Industry professionals can work with us on weddings, styled shoots, editorial projects, and special events. Brands can partner with us for launches, activations, gifting, and celebrations. Clients and corporate teams can bring us in for custom cakes, dessert catering, branded treats, team events, and decorating classes.
One of the things we love most about what we do is creating something unique for every client. There may be similarities from one project to another, but no two cakes are ever exactly the same. Every design is inspired by the people and story behind it, which means every project gives us an opportunity to create something new.
Whether you’re planning a wedding, celebrating a milestone, organizing a corporate event, or looking for a creative collaboration, we’d love to be part of it.
The best way to support us is to share our work, recommend us to a friend, or invite us to be part of your next celebration.
