Community Highlights: Meet Katie Tlush of Tlush Family Farm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Tlush.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
During the Pandemic it came to fruition- like many other families- that I {Katie} was to stay at home with our two young children… To which, I suppose, my ‘newly found free time’ ‘ birthed a new opportunity. A way of creating income for our family that allowed me to be with my children as much as possible. I took my green thumb and scaled a passion project that became; Tlush Family Farm. A two-part indoor agricultural farm of Microgreens & Edible Flowers. We service a lot of the area’s most elite chefs, topping the dishes of some of the hottest reservations.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The culinary world was really welcoming to us and with many of the supply chains broken from the pandemic, locally sourced was essential. The farm to table concept people can really stand behind. After making those strong relationships and continuing to produce reliable, high quality product our name became a staple.

As you know, we’re big fans of Tlush Family Farm. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are an indoor urban agricultural farm supplying Microgreens & Edible Flowers known for superior high quality and freshness. Chefs universally agree that a great meal can only start with great ingredients having the local relationship is the icing on the cake. As a brand, when a new account or chef onboards with us we always say “Welcome to the Family.”

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Everything in moderation; but the fear of failure is palpable when you start a business or brand. I have an education in Dental Hygiene, so changing into a self taught farmer seems a bit risky – HA. Generally speaking I would not consider myself a risk taker but this one definitely takes the cake.
