Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Essis.
Hi Anthony, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Everyone has a different journey, and it isn’t always easy. Some of us face more challenges than others, but we have to keep moving forward. What keeps me going is having purpose and helping people use their money for what truly matters.
The importance of that is something I learned at a young age. My dad put me to work in the family flooring business when I was around 10. It may not have paid much, but it taught me the value of time and the tradeoff you make between the time you spend working hard and the goals it helps you accomplish.
Time is precious, and you should spend it on what’s really worth it. Time is something I didn’t have enough of with my mom. She fought very hard for several years against cancer, and lost the battle when I was 14. I remember so vividly that no matter how sick she was, or how much pain she was in, she always put a smile on her face when I was around. The strength that must have taken, still touches me to this day. I later went on to Villanova University and studied Business Administration and finance, graduating in 1998.
Just a few years ago, my brother passed away suddenly while we were on a ski trip together. To say we were close is an understatement. We were best friends, and second dads to each other’s kids. I can’t change the things that have happened in the past, but I can use my experiences to help others plan for and handle the unexpected moments they face.
Our company name, Mettle, represents strength and perseverance– two values that define me. I attribute my mettle to my parents and my Christian faith. I try to live this in my daily life and be an example for others especially my children, niece, and nephews. I also watch my youngest child, Allegra, dig deep as she struggles with a rare genetic disorder. Family is my principal core value. We love to travel and ski and have big family dinners almost every Sunday. I believe our blessings and hard work go hand in hand. We control what we can; using resources wisely to be prepared AND grow. From there we allow things to happen the way they’re supposed to. I want to be an important resource and add value to our clients’ journey. I strive to Inspire confidence, reduce stress, and simplify life. Time is the only true currency. I cannot believe I have been an financial planner for almost 28 years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As I said, I have had plenty of person challenges. My parents taught me that life is difficult and full of suffering. It is through those difficulties that you gain wisdom and understanding.
