Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis A. Hendrickson.
Hi Alexis A., thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Working in the beauty industry was a field I always wanted to work in. Years ago, I received an insert in the mail for Esthetician school but as a single mother, I didn’t have the ability at the time to drop everything I was doing to attend school full-time while also tending to my other responsibilities. I ended up leaving my medical field job and found myself working in the corporate world, a production-focused audit job. Unfortunately, COVID hit and I was forced to work at home — a blessing and a curse. I got to be home, save money and time with my commute but now that meant being a homeschool teacher to my children while trying to balance work. During this time, my small Etsy-based business that took off, allowing me to leave my corporate job. Fast-foward two years, I got tired of being home, my online business slowed down and wanted to venture out into the workplace world again, I found a call center job and within 3 months, I regretted my decision. I unfortunately was a victim of verbal and emotional abuse that my team leads turned an eye to. At that point, I knew entrepreneurship was my true calling and if I was able to dedicate this time, effort and dedication to a company – there’s no reason why I can’t do it for myself, again. So back to the drawing board I went, that day I went home, checked the mail and there was an insert in the mail, for the same beauty school that I received years prior when I was living at a different house. I took it as a sign. I made phone calls, make sure my support system would have my back, and ultimately left my job, enrolled in beauty school. I put my all into schooling, every day I walked in there I had the mentality that this it was MY personal business. I put 100% of everything into schooling and within (3) months of graduation I had keys in my hands for my current establishment, REVIVE Brow + Beauty Bar.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a mother of four children, there are always obstacles and challenges regardless of how smooth things go. I wouldn’t necessarily say the road was ever closed, but there have surely been a few detours. From two of my children needing to be hospitalized due to random medical emergencies to renovation dates being pushed back. I would say the biggest struggle would be balance — how to balance motherhood, entrepreneurship, while also finding time for self. Personal sacrifices are always been made but in order to ensure my children are well taken care of and business runs smoothly that’s a temporary price that needs to be paid — which I obviously more than willing to pay!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I officially opened REVIVE in May 2025, it is a small suburban-based beauty bar (35 mins from Philadelphia) that focuses on providing a safe, welcoming, and serene space where beauty and self care goes hand in hand. As a Licensed Esthetician, I service both men and woman and preform everything from skincare, waxing, lashes, and eyebrows. I specialize and am primarily known for my Brow Artistry.
What sets me apart from others is how I run my business and treat my clients. I believe on creating a space where people are seen and heard. For many of my clients, this is their little bit of time away from the house or work. My slogan is, “It’s more than just beauty, it’s about being”, which I stand behind 100%. I look at every client as if they’re a close friend or family member — services are never rushed I actually prefer quality over quantity. At REVIVE, you’re not a number, in fact, I don’t up-sale ANY of my services.
I am a strong believer that knowledge is power so I am always taking additional classes to expand my knowledge and craft (currently taking permanent makeup classes) in order to provide an education-based and result-driven experience since the beauty industry is always changing.
The things I am most proud of brand wise, is the fact that I do everything myself. I am literally a one-woman show, from the decal on the front door of my establishment to branded merchandise and serviced rendered.
I want readers to know that when they come to REVIVE they are truly supporting a minority-owner business mother who loves making people feel good about themselves. I take deep pride in that fact that I was able to carry out my vision of creating a cozy space where people can be authentically them, a place where they don’t feel pressured, a place where they can open up and relax while I providing a self care experience — whether is waxing a body part or getting a full on eyebrow experience.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My biggest supporters have been my parents, Kenneth and Peggie. They have both been with me through every step of the way. Without their emotional, mental, spiritual, physical and financially support I wouldn’t be where I am today.
As a solo-entrepreneur, everything in REVIVE was built from the ground up. When my I took my father to the walk through, the whole office was full of clutter and it has cement flooring. I saw the vision and he helped me execute it. I couldn’t even begin to tell you how many countless days and endless nights there were hosting pizza parties and dancing in an empty suite while building furniture that we bought from IKEA, deep cleaning, and decorating. The months worth of runs to Home Depot and Lowes to get supplies. Not to mention, taking turns to watch my children as all of this was being done.
