Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Castaldi.
Hi Jared , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Steve and I began homebrewing in the kitchen of my Philly row home around 2012. Our first batch of beer was one gallon and it took 9 hours. We have come a long way since then and now brew on a 7 barrel system. We decided to start planning on opening the brewery around 2017. It took a few years of looking for the right location and fundraising but we eventually opened the week of March 20th, 2020… the same week that the country shut down for Covid. Our first year was “interesting” with the shut down and the ever changing restrictions but the community accepted us and supported us as much as possible. We now have a severely loyal base of customers that’s been keeping us going. It’s tough to run and keep a brewery open now so they’re the reason we’re still here.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been a tough 6 years. We opened right as covid hit so our business plan went in the trash. We’ve had to constantly change the way we reach customers and adapt to the economic climate that we’re in. Breweries are closing left and right, so we try to learn lessons from their stories and try not to make the same mistakes. We do some distribution to local restaurants and a few distributors but our focus is on staying hyper-local and trying to draw in customers in a 20 minute driving radius.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We like to think we’re known for easy drinking and balanced beers. We always say that the beers we make, you should want to drink more than one. We tend to stay on the lower side of alcohol content – usually 4.5%-6% and we don’t usually add weird fruit flavors or other gimmicky ingredients.
We are also one of the only music venues in the area. We do the usual cover bands on Friday nights but we also bring in original music acts, some local and some very well known national acts.
