Rising Stars: Meet Tabetha Super of Reading

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tabetha Super.

Hi Tabetha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Dr. Super began Dr. Super’s House of Health in September 2021. With just $120 and the equipment she had bought over the years, she started seeing patients for home visits. She saved until she had enough to rent a small office in the Berkshire Mall and brought on a few employees. Since then, Dr. Super’s House of Health has grown and expanded to meet the needs of the her community.

Dr. Super’s House of Health was founded to provide a safe space for patients to heal and feel comfortable in their body while receiving care. By focusing on the positives and providing solutions, we are able to give our patients hope in their healing process. When your mind focuses on the problem, the problem gets bigger. When your mind focuses on the solution, the solution comes into focus and you can finally overcome the problem.

Dr. Super’s own experience with chronic pain and hEDS has taken her on her own exciting healing journey. She writes about her ongoing healing process in her blog on her website, and many patients find her office due to the connection she builds with them through her writing. She also takes her role as a chiropractor very seriously and believes that every adjustment is a gift that allows her to connect and heal with her patients in a loving and unique way. “I take my art form seriously and practice adjusting regularly, get adjusted regularly, and read chiropractic literature regularly. I have to practice the art of touch, of pressure, of reading the body. I listen to my hands when they tell me something hurts, when something has loss of tone, or too much tone. I listen to my hands and my innate intuition when it tells me when to adjust or when NOT to adjust. I feel for differences in vibration, pulses, temperature, skin drag, and fluid. I feel for stability, lack of stability, restriction, or hypermobility. This is all part of the “Art” of chiropractic” – Dr. Super

Dr. Super enjoys working with all kinds of patients, but especially finds joy working with pregnant mothers, babies, children, chronic pain. and the LGBTQIA+ community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Dr. Super never wanted to be a business owner. There is a lot of stress that comes with caring for a business, its employees, thousands of patients, a family, and herself. However, for Dr. Super to provide a safe and caring environment for patients of all walks of life, she had to venture out on her own. Starting with only $120 meant she had to grow at her own pace and had to give herself grace when comparing herself to other successful practices in the area. She never compromised the level of patient care, and never passed on financial frustration to the patient or staff. Her unwavering commitment to her sliding scale pricing and free care days have gained her a following of patients and staff that truly believe in the type of change she is making in the community.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Dr. Super is most known for her individualized care approach and her use of the sphenoid adjustment to help patients with all kinds of chronic issues. most people are under the impression that chiropractic care is only about neck and back pain.

Patients are surprised to learn that chiropractic helps your body operate at its fullest expression of health, and so your body can potentially heal from all kinds of ailments.

With the Sphenoid Adjustment, Dr. Super performs the adjustment by gently placing the thumbs (or pinkies when it comes to small children) into the ear where arterial baroreceptors trigger a reflex which influence blood volume. Once initiated, palpation of the CSF and arterial pulses in the cranium can begin. During this adjustment every heartbeat you have and every deep breath you take aids the movement of the sphenoid. Many patients feel a fluid pulse, or sometimes they feel like their whole body is rocking “like I’m on a boat”. A patient can even hear audible “clicks” in the cranium when the sphenoid moves! Sometimes these movements are delayed, but eventually your body takes the hint and the sphenoid adjusts to a position that is better for your structure and function. Patients usually notice a difference right away, but some individuals may need several adjustments for relief of symptoms. The sphenoid is a unique bone that forms the floor of the braincase and the back wall of the eye socket. Its structure dictates the function of several important cranial nerves. These nerves control our organ function as well as our senses; this includes sight and eye movements, smell, hearing, taste, swallowing and speech, as well as equilibrium, and also the control of our Vagus nerve.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Dr. Super’s personal philosophy is to be authentic to oneself in all areas of life. By living authentically, she is able to truly connect and build relationships with her patients. Her professional philosophy is death to the ego. Ego doesn’t belong in medicine and the first priority must always be to serve the patient. Their goal is to always make the patient feel safe, loved, and cared for above all else. This has been especially beneficial for the LGBTQIA+ community as they often face discrimination in healthcare and have a hard time feeling safe in a doctors office. As a non-binary individual, Dr. Super understands the needs of the community and loves helping folks from all walks of life to feel safe in and fall in love with their body’s again.
