Today we’d like to introduce you to Frank Mingrino.
Hi Frank , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Family owned since 2006, Limoncello Ristorante and Catering has become one of Chester County’s most recognized names, providing traditional and authentic Italian cuisine, along with specialty and customized dishes.
Each dish that is served at Limoncello Ristorante is cooked with love and has been perfected through generations of Mingrino’s. Parents, Giuseppe and Maria’s hearts are filled with pride as they watch their three children, Frank, Paul, and Dina, carry on the Mingrino and LaSpada family recipes and serve their local communities in Chester County, Pa.
In 1963, the Leonardo DaVinci docked in New York from Italy, carrying both parents, Giuseppe Mingrino and Maria LaSpada. Although they arrived on the same boat at Ellis Island, it was not until one year later that they met in Philadelphia. At this chance meeting, Giuseppe and Maria discovered it was the same boat that brought them to this country, on the very same day! The rest is history as they fell in love and started a family. The Mingrino’s began to make their own traditions for all generations to come, with food being as important then, as it is today.
Limoncello is not just a restaurant, but a beloved comfort spot where friends and families can come to unwind and enjoy their dining experience. Whether it be a quick lunch break, a happy hour unwind, or a birthday dinner celebration, Limoncello and their hardworking staff makes every visit feel special.
Along with being a trusted restaurant, they also specialize in hosting private parties for all of life’s celebrations. From baby/bridal showers, graduation parties, and bereavement luncheons, to corporate events, Limoncello has the perfect variety of spaces to bring your vision to life. Their dedicated team is always eager to help every step of the way!
For 20 years, the Mingrino family has been making a huge impact on our community. They have had the largest Toys for Tots toy drive in the Chester County Area for years. They also created The Limoncello Foundation in 2025 and their first charity golf outing helped raise $100,000 for the Chester County Hospital NICU. The Mingrinos realize the importance of giving back to their community that keeps them afloat and are forever grateful for their supporters.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We’ve truly been very fortunate with our restaurant. Our community has always been incredibly supportive and has had our backs from the very beginning. That support has made a huge difference in our journey.
Like many small, local businesses, one of our biggest challenges was navigating COVID-19. It was an incredibly difficult time for the restaurant industry, and there were many moments where we were just trying to stay afloat while everything around us was uncertain. We’re forever grateful to our community for continuing to support us during that time, and to our staff who showed up, worked hard, and stood by us through it all.
While the pandemic did change some aspects of how we operate—like the loss of our lunch buffet—we adapted and found new ways to move forward. Today, we’re incredibly thankful to be back, fully open, and operating normally again. That experience really reinforced how strong our community is and how much we value the people who support our restaurant.
As you know, we’re big fans of Limoncello Ristorante & Caterers. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Limoncello is a family-owned Italian restaurant built around the idea that great food and genuine hospitality bring people together. From the beginning, our goal has been to create a place where guests feel like they’re walking into a welcoming home, whether they’re joining us for a casual dinner, celebrating a milestone, or gathering with family and friends.
Our menu focuses on classic Italian dishes made with fresh ingredients, generous portions, and flavors that feel both comforting and memorable. While we’re known for our traditional Italian favorites, we also love introducing new ideas, like seasonal cocktails, special events, and menu additions that keep things exciting for our guests.
One of the things that really sets Limoncello apart is the sense of community that surrounds our restaurants. We’re incredibly proud of the relationships we’ve built with our guests over the years. Many people have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, and other special moments with us, and it means a lot that Limoncello has become part of those memories.
Another part of our brand that we’re especially proud of is our commitment to giving back through the Limoncello Foundation. Each year we host our annual golf outing, which brings our community together while raising money for the Chester County Hospital NICU. Being able to support others and give back to the same community that supports us is something that means a great deal to our entire team. We’re also extremely proud of the atmosphere we’ve created. It’s warm, welcoming, and rooted in family. Our team works hard to make sure every guest feels taken care of, and that hospitality is at the heart of everything we do.
What we want readers to know most is that Limoncello is more than just a place to eat. It’s a place to gather, celebrate, and enjoy great food in an environment that feels inviting and authentic. We’re incredibly grateful to the community that continues to support us and allows us to do what we love every day.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is visiting my Grandmom’s house in Sicily, Italy with my family. She had a lemon tree in her backyard, and my siblings, Paul and Dina, and I would pick the lemons right off the tree. We’d help our Grandmom make fresh limoncello together, which is actually what inspired the name of our restaurant.
Of course, getting to enjoy her incredible homemade meals was always a huge bonus when we visited too. Those moments are really special to me. Being there with my family, surrounded by the smells of her cooking and the tradition of making limoncello together, created memories that have stayed with me my whole life.
