Conversations with Nikki Luu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Luu.

Hi Nikki, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in the beauty industry. My mom owned a salon, and I was blessed to watch her build from the ground up. After high school, I went straight to cosmetology school.

In 2014, I started doing lash extensions.
In 2018, I stepped into permanent makeup.

Then COVID hit… and everything slowed down.

But instead of shrinking, I bet on myself. I went all in. I invested every penny and every dollar of my savings into this business because I believed in my heart that making others feel beautiful is what I’m truly called to do.

By 2022, everything shifted. Permanent makeup started flowing in consistently, my business took off, and I’ve been flourishing ever since.

When the world paused, I chose to grow anyway. And I’m forever grateful for every single client who has walked through my door and trusted me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not.

Like any business, there are ups and downs. There are slow seasons, and there are busy seasons. That’s the reality of entrepreneurship. Nothing is ever consistently high and that’s okay.

There were times I questioned myself. Times when bookings were slow. Times when I tried running ads and maybe got one booking from it.

In my experience, ads didn’t build my business.

Creating great work did.

Perfecting my craft. Staying consistent. Making sure every client left happy. That’s what created real growth. That’s what built a steady referral flow.

Because at the end of the day, good work speaks louder than any advertisement ever could.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a lash artist, a permanent makeup artist, and a fine line tattoo artist.

But more than anything, I’m proud of how I make my clients feel.

When they walk through my door, they might come in as strangers but they leave feeling seen, heard, and confident. They leave feeling like family. And to me, they truly are.

Yes, I create beautiful work. But what sets me apart isn’t just the artistry — it’s the connection. I take the time to get to know my clients on a deeper level. I listen. I care. I want them to feel safe and understood.

And above all, I work with integrity.

For me, it’s integrity over income.
Income is part of business but I will never take someone’s money just to take it. Every service has to align with my beliefs and what’s truly best for my client.

Because character will always speak louder than profit and that’s something I’ll never compromise.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about our city is the community of women who truly support other women. That energy is powerful. It’s beautiful to see collaboration instead of competition, encouragement instead of comparison.

The truth is, you can’t serve every single person in your city — that’s impossible. And you’re not meant to.

There is more than enough to go around for everyone.

What I don’t love is the competitive mindset that sometimes shows up. For me, there’s no point in that. When you’re secure in your craft, your character, and your calling, you don’t feel threatened, you feel aligned.

I believe in abundance. I believe in community and I believe when women support women, we all win.
